Organic Foods

By Grace Sardonicus

    Monday, June 28th, 2010

Originally, all foods were “organic.” They were grown and prepared without pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, hormones or irradiation. Foods were unrefined, whole or minimally processed. Since World War II and the advent of chemical farming and food processing, the soils and foods of much of the world have been depleted of many minerals and nutrients.

Our food these days, whether of vegetable or animal origin, is not only deficient in nutrients, but also full of pollutants and farming chemicals. The modern process of denaturing foods via heavy refining and chemical treatment deeply affects the life force of our food supply, making it difficult to foster equilibrium and health.

Pesticides, which have been shown to cause cancer and liver, kidney and blood diseases, create extra work for the immune system. They lodge and accumulate in tissue, resulting in a weakened immune system, and consequently allow other carcinogens and pathogens to filter into the body and affect our health. Organic certification is the public’s assurance that products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without persistent toxic chemical inputs.

Top 10 reasons to buy and eat organic foods:

1.    Keep chemicals off your plate. Pesticides are poisons designed to kill living organisms and thus are harmful to humans. Many approved pesticides were registered long before extensive research linked these chemicals to cancer and other diseases. Organic agriculture is a way to prevent any more of these chemicals from getting into the air, water and food supply.

2.    Protect future generations. Children are four times more sensitive to exposure to cancer-causing pesticides in foods than adults.

3.    Protect water quality. Pesticides pollute the public’s primary source of drinking water for more than half the country’s population.

4.    Organic farmers work in harmony with nature. Three billion tons of topsoil erodes from croplands in the U.S. each year, and much of it is due to conventional farming practices, which often ignore the health of the soil. Organic agriculture respects the balance necessary for a healthy ecosystem; wildlife is encouraged by including forage crops in rotation and by retaining fencerows, wetlands and other natural areas.

5.    Save energy. More energy is now used to produce synthetic fertilizers than to till, cultivate and harvest all the crops in the U.S.

6.    Help small farmers. Although more and more large-scale farms are making the conversion to organic practices, most organic farms are small, independently owned and operated family farms. USDA reported that in 1997, half of U.S. farm production came from only 2% of farms. Organic agriculture can be a lifeline for small farms because it offers an alternative market where sellers can demand fair prices for crops.

7.    Support a true economy. Organic foods might seem expensive at first. However, your tax dollars pay for hazardous waste clean-up and environmental damage caused by conventional farming.

8.    Promote biodiversity. Planting large plots of land with the same crop year after year tripled farm production between 1950 and 1970, but the lack of natural diversity of plant life has negatively affected soil quality.

9.    Nourishment. Organic farming starts with the nourishment of the soil, in turn producing nourishing plants. Well-maintained soil produces strong, healthy plants that have more nutrients than conventionally grown produce.

10.  Flavor. Organic produce simply tastes better. Conduct your own taste test!

Work ON Your Business – Not IN Your Business

By Kevin Murray

    Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners -

Work more ON your business, and less IN your business.

This is the key to creating more income with less work.

How do you do it? Read on…

Changing Your Point of View to 30,000 Feet

It’s hard to take time to “see” your business, your products, services and customers; if you are busy and stressed.

But if your only point of view is from the trenches, it’s real hard to create a prosperous vision of the future that’s different from what you’re getting today.

And you need to have a vision that excites you and inspires you or work is just a drag. To have an inspired or refreshed vision, you need to elevate yourself above the day-to-day activities of your business. To do this, you have to create some time for yourself – just for working on your business – you can’t do it while you’re working in your business.

So give yourself a little time; this week or maybe even today! If you’re completely jammed, you can still probably give yourself 5 minutes to raise yourself up above your daily business activity, and look down and ask “what does my business need most?” Take a few breaths and let that question sink in. Don’t try to come up with an answer that you think you already know. Rather, bring your attention to your breath, and wait for an answer. This might seem a little odd, but trust me, that in doing this, you learn to TRUST YOURSELF. Try this today. Maybe put time for this type of “seeing” in your calendar.

How Do You Begin to Work On Your Business?

Here are 2 ways, and they are both FREE- to introduce you to Energize Your Business.

1. You can download for FREE the new ebook “Energize Your Business with the Law of Attraction – 5 Simple Steps to Design and Create Your Own Prosperity” by clicking right here.

2. I’ll send you my free email GoodNewsLetter. Every other week, you’ll receive simple-to-act-on yet highly effective ideas to immediately pick up your energy, improve marketing and sales results, and build systems into your business so that you can Work Less and Earn More. It’s FREE and you can unsubscribe easily at any time.

Even if you get only 1 great idea from the book or the newsletter, and that idea can add 10% more to your income, or reduce 10% of the time you spend at work, isn’t that worth a lot?

Change in Consciousness

By Meghan McChesney Gilroy

    Monday, June 7th, 2010

Imagine having the power to jump-start a change in consciousness that affects the entire planet. That’s not as far-fetched as you might think.

Scientific studies have proven that the minimum number of people required to shift consciousness is the square root of 1% of a population.*  Curious about how many people that would be in our town (population 20,000), I grabbed a calculator. Go ahead, take a guess…

Only 14, the size of our bi-weekly meditation group. Wow. That’s doable and impressive. On our planet of 6 billion people, we need 8,000 people to initiate a change. And in a typical yoga class or workshop with 25 people, only 0.5 of a person is required.

On some days, my heart feels heavy with all the challenges we face. It can feel overwhelming to envision a radical shift for the planet (or even our own lives). Yet with this new information, it feels achievable. In fact, I’m even more inspired to take action from my heart when I know that with just a few friends, our larger Life Mastery Programs community, or 7,999 others we can create a quantum shift for all of us.

Last month, Jamie and I initiated The Giving Hearts Telecall with the intent of restoring, rejuvenating, and reinvigorating ourselves so that we have an abundance of energy to send out into our world. We had 6 of us on the call. Is that a meager handful or enough to make a difference? Well, one of the participants called in from Ireland, so it was truly a global call. The energy was palpable. I have no doubt it made an impact in each of our lives, as well as the world beyond us.

If you’d like to participate consciously in this global shift in consciousness, then we invite you to join us this month. Who knows, pretty soon we may have thousands of others on the line with us too.

The Giving Hearts Telecall
