When I first heard of the change jar, I didn't think much of it. It is a nice idea. Then I had the chance to practice it. I had an argument with my oldest son, something we rarely get into. I went into my bedroom and saw a quarter and remembered the change jar. I put two quarters in for this argument. The action of putting the coins in the jar had such an impact. It brought me out of my reaction, making me realize what it was - just a reaction. There was not beating myself up for having the reaction. The quarter took care of that. It surprised me how effective this small action is.
